This was a dad-heavy week here on CoParenting101.org, so I (Deesha) thought I’d throw some mamas into the mix and mention two books I’m reading.
I’m wrapping up Divorce Sucks: What to do When Irreconcilable Differences, Lawyers Fees, and Your Ex Husband’s Hollywood Wife Makes You Miserable by Mary Jo Eustace. The “Hollywood Wife” in question is Tori Spelling, and so it’s easy to presume this book is a celebrity tell-all. But really, it’s more than that: it’s a how-to-get-divorced-without-losing-your-flipping-mind guide for women. There’s a lot of comfort and wisdom (and humor!) in these pages, so I recommend it to women who are contemplating divorce, still mired in the legal process, or struggling to heal after the ink has dried on the divorce decree. Eustace lays bare the darkest days of her divorce–the anger, the confusion, the failure to change her clothes on a daily basis–but she makes the crucial point that the low moments are part of the process, not where you should remain. Eustace exhorts divorced women to reclaim their lives and live to the fullest.
Also…Over at Singlemommyhood, I was the lucky winner of a copy of Izzy Rose’s new book, The Package Deal: My (Not-So) Glamorous Transition from Single Gal to Instant Mom. I’ll become a stepmom in March, but because I’m already a mom, I can’t relate 100% to Izzy’s story. Still, just a few chapters in, I’m loving it. She tells her story candidly and with a lot of humor. Get this book–or give it to a stepmom or soon-to-be step-mom! And…check out Izzy’s blog, the fantastically-named, StepMother’s Milk.
Speaking of step-moms, Sherry (Mike’s wife) will be joining us this Sunday at 9:30 PM EST on “Co-Parenting Matters”, our live, weekly talk show on BlogTalk Radio. Our topic is “Step-dating: Dating with Kids in the Mix”, and we’ll also be joined by Yvonne Kelly, co-founder of the Step and Blended Family Institute. Are you wondering when’s the right time to introduce your kids to your new significant other? What if they’ve met, and things aren’t off to a good start? How do you balance your relationship with your kids with your dating relationship? Call in to (646) 378-0580, listen in, ask your questions!
