Just asked my ex to make sure our oldest daughter scrubs her neck & remembers her deodorant.

Already working out the parenting time details of Spring Break 2011 w/the ex.So thankful these conversations are drama-free.

Last week, I (Deesha) posted the above tweets to the Co-Parenting101 Twitter account.  After the second one, I was reminded of this past Father’s Day when someone accused one of my tweeps Michele (Black ‘n Bougie) of rubbing her good father in the face of those whose daddies left a lot to be desired.  I had a father like that, but I certainly didn’t begrudge anyone giving their great dad a shout-out.  Similarly, I don’t begrudge anyone’s right to rant about their awful ex (out of earshot of their kids, of course).  But I realized that  efforts to avoid coming across as bragging have limited the extent to which I’ve tweeted and posted here about how Mike and I are able to cooperate, about how co-parenting looks for us logistically, practically, day to day.  To avoid alienating, it seems we’ve skimped on the details of our co-parenting journey…the sharing of which was kinda the whole point of this site.

We’re wrapping up our month-long celebration of fathers with the last “Co-Parenting Matters” show of the season, “Odd Man Out: The Distant NonCustodial Dad vs. The Everyday Stepfather” on Sunday June 2th.

Our guest will be David Parrish, Jr., a co-parenting dad who knows quite a bit about the world of fatherhood. David’s first marriage broke down when the oldest of his sons was 3 years-old–the same age David had been when his own father left his mother. Throughout his life, David has been a stepson as well as an uncle and surrogate father himself, formally and informally, to many children whose lives have become intertwined with his own. Today, David finds himself the “odd man out”: Remarried with a 1-year-old son, while his two older sons live primarily with their mother and stepfather in a different state. He’s joining us to talk about staying connected while distance co-parenting.

We hope you can join us this Sunday night at 9:30 PM EST.

We’re continuing our month-long celebration of dads with our Father’s Day show, “Fathers in Prison.” Our guests will be WeParent.com Fatherhood Freestyle columnist Mike McCrae and Britni Danielle, who blogs about her experiences at ThisSideoftheWall.

Dr. Mike, a clinical pyschologist and a single dad, himself, runs a psychotherapeutic group called Fathers In Training (FIT) for incarcerated fathers designed to build and strengthen their co-parenting skills despite their incarceration status. So, he’s going to share some of the insights he’s gained from his experience.

Britni Danielle offers a perspective from a mother who is co-parenting with a dad behind the wall. She and her child’s father are still in a relationship, but we’re certain that the insights she has to share will be valuable and relevant to parents who aren’t.

We hope you can join us this Sunday night at 9:30 PM EST.

Coming soon on “Co-Parenting Matters” June 27 “Odd Man Out: The Distant Non Custodial Parent vs. The Everyday Stepfather” with David, who blogs at InkogNegro 2.0

And, in case you missed it:

June 6 “Full Custody Dad” with Fred Campos, founder of Daddy Got Custody, LLC

June 13 “Bonds, Not Blood” (dads co-parenting children who are not biologically related, after a break-up) with William Foster and Brandon Wilson
