A recent commenter “Nobody Cares” wrote the following in response to a post from last year about abusive exes:

I got out, but the current custody laws have me co-parenting with a HIGHLY abusive ex. THANKS, CUSTODY LAWS! There is NOTHING in place to prevent children from abuse in these situations! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are suffering. I have had to change my name and SS# [because] of stalking. STILL I’m forced to send the children there. I have been threatened, [and] STILL the children have to go. I am in fear of my life, yet I’m told if I don’t send my kids, I’ll lose custody and he can abuse them FULL TIME!!!

I hate the court systems. Nothing makes any sense! We live for the day we can ALL change our names and disappear for good. Thanks, court system!

We reached out to parenting coordinator Brooke Randolph, an Indiana-based licensed mental health counselor/therapist and parenting coordinator (PC) to ask what options are available to a parent in this situation. Her response:
