Well, I (Deesha) am in the airport TGIFriday’s sipping blackberry mojitos waiting to board a flight to spend Thanksgiving and a long weekend with my fiance JB, my future bonus daughters, and extended family.  JB’s done most of the shopping and is cooking the turkey, one bonus daughter has baked a cake,  and I’m happily doing the rest.

Last year this time, JB, our four girls, and I spent four days at an indoor waterpark and lodge.  It was non-traditional fun, but we still feasted in style on Thanksgiving Day.

Our co-parenting and holiday plan: Mike and I alternate Thanksgiving with the girls.  So this year they will be with him, his wife Sherry, and extended family.

In the spirit of lowercase-r thanksgiving, I’m re-posting What I’m Thankful For: A Co-Parenting Challenge.

Cheers!

Whether to vaccinate your children is a major decision, and therefore should be agreed upon by both parents. Speak together with your pediatrician, and consider his or her opinion about the matter. Listen to what your co-parent has to say, and talk over the pros and cons of vaccinating your children. Make every attempt to come to a decision together, taking into account the best interests of your children.”

“My internal dialogue would sound like this: They loved each other and created me.  I am half of each of them.  But now they don’t love each other, so how can they possibly love me?  Maybe half of me.  That I could understand; but never all of me.  Not the parts that come from the other.  But I can’t be split in two, I can only be one whole person.  And if they can’t stand half of me, it’s not possible for them to love all of me.  Maybe I can hide.  But I can’t help being the constant reminder of the marriage they didn’t want.  I can’t help always requiring an explanation. Wouldn’t their lives be easier if I just didn’t exist?”
