Well, I (Deesha) am in the airport TGIFriday’s sipping blackberry mojitos waiting to board a flight to spend Thanksgiving and a long weekend with my fiance JB, my future bonus daughters, and extended family.  JB’s done most of the shopping and is cooking the turkey, one bonus daughter has baked a cake,  and I’m happily doing the rest.

Last year this time, JB, our four girls, and I spent four days at an indoor waterpark and lodge.  It was non-traditional fun, but we still feasted in style on Thanksgiving Day.

Our co-parenting and holiday plan: Mike and I alternate Thanksgiving with the girls.  So this year they will be with him, his wife Sherry, and extended family.

In the spirit of lowercase-r thanksgiving, I’m re-posting What I’m Thankful For: A Co-Parenting Challenge.

Cheers!

single parent network and advice

We can probably all think of at least one family (if it’s not our own) where hatchets are buried, even if only temporarily, as the carving knife slices into the Thanksgiving turkey. Thanksgiving is also a time where many, if not most, children of divorce, like mine, are spending it with one parent, and not the other. So this Thanksgiving, I’m encouraging all co-parents who are observing Thanksgiving with their children to consider giving thanks, publicly, for their child’s other parent. Yes, I said it: Give thanks for your ex.
