Perhaps it was the poet and philosopher Sir Charles Barkley who said it most famously in 1993: “I am not a role model.” Since then, other athletes, musicians, actors, and random “socialite” heiresses have told us  with their words and deeds, “Raise your own damn kids.  Not my job.”  Let’s save the debate over that issue for another time.  Instead, let’s talk about how you are without question your child’s primary role model, and about how the children are always, always watching.  As a co-parent, what are you modeling for your child?

Dear Lifetime TV:

A friend of mine used to refer to the Lifetime channel as “Wifetime: The Victims’  Network” mainly because of all those cheesy movies featuring Nancy McKeon and Meredith Baxter-Birney as mothers and wives, and victims and/or victimizers of some sort. Same basic plots, different faces. In recent years, Lifetime has managed to at least diversify its programming cheese a little. So, I was surprised and disappointed to learn that the network has taken a major step back, announcing the launch of a new reality show, Deadbeat Dads, that’s not only tacky, but downright irresponsible.
